Johanna von der Dekenmezzo soprano

Johanna von der Deken was born in Graz. She studied violin at the Conservatory and attended a course for choral conducting at the Music University in Graz.
She then graduated from the Dramaschool of the Volkstheater in Vienna. Later on she played several roles for the Volkstheater, the Theater der Jugend, as well as for television. 

She got her vocal training at the Conservatory of the City of Vienna and through private lessons with Hilde Rössel-Majdan, Hilde Zadek and Herwig Reiter. Her wide-ranging repertoire extends from baroque music to contemporary works. 

As a lyrical mezzosopranist she was invited to join several opera projects at prestigious Operas such as the Theater an der Wien, the Grazer Oper, the Staatsoper, the Vienna Chamber Opera, the New Opera Vienna, the Viennese Odeon, the Ruhrtriennale, the Klosterneuburg Opera, the Wiener Schauspielhaus , the Stadttheater Klagenfurt, the Carinthian Summer and the Opéra Garnier in Paris. 

Since 2019 she teaches speech and singing at the Schauspielschule Wien. Since 2021 she works as a breathing and vocal coach with long covid patients in the visionary project «Aufatmen». Since 2023 she teaches speech and rhetoric at the « Zentrum für Stimme & Sprechen » in Vienna.
